I got into reading these while living in San Francisco, where there was a different advice column (each very sexual) in every one of the free weekly newspapers (there are about 4 of them down there.

Basically I thought I'd just throw a link up for each of them, a short description of what they're all about, and if someone else gets a kick out of them... well, then my work here is done...

Ann Lander's - What can be said? The originator of the entire format. Unfortunately Ms. Lander (aka Esther Pauline Lederer) passed away on June 22nd, 2002. Apparently there is talk of her daughter and her two assistants taking over her column, with each version being a slightly different "evolution" of the original.

Dear Abby - Ann Lander's twin sister. Very similar tone to Ann's column, but written as a collaboration between Abby and her daughter. To me Abby will always be a knock-off who tried (and in my opinion failed) to compete with her sister, but I guess at this point it doesn't really matter any more. I read both of the above more because they irritate me more then really agreeing with the advice.

Savage Love - Dan Savage is a gay man living in Seattle who deals with ANYTHING his readers send in to him. If you're interested in freaks, this is the place to go... Dan is probably about my favourite... I always look forward to the new column on Wednesdays.

Alt.Sex.Column - Andrea Nemerson's column in the San Francisco Bay Guardian. This was the first one that got me reading.

Ask Bizarre - A british magazine called "Bizarre" which claims they'll tackle any question sent.

Miss Manners - Another of the industry "biggies". Another "version" is available here, I'm not sure what the relationship is between the two (other than having the same author). Interesting read, with the occassional great column, but a little over-focused in my opinion. My favourite column of her's is this one.

Ellie - A Canadian advice columnist, primarily for for The Toronto Star. Pretty weak, but worth reading if you're desparate for an "advice fix"..

Ask the Headhunter - Quite a different style of article, this guy is a professional headhunter (gets paid for finding people a job) and gives the dirt (as he sees it) on getting a job with a good salary.

Chronicle Advice Columns - Basically a journal for academics, they have a bunch of advice columns on fairly focused subjects (such as non-academic careers for PhDs, advancing your career in campus administration, etc).

Jewish Dating Advice A "plus" on a dating website devoted to helping Jews meet other Jews, I got a kick out of this, just because the advice seems so outlandish to me. Some of it includes "Don't wait to get married, you'll get to used to being single, so get married young" and "Get the guy married, many guys are apprehensive about getting married, but once they're hitched they settled down and enjoy it"... Worth checking out.
